Review of Spears and Shadows

I have a strict no-writing-about-the-second-half of the book rule. This is the first time I’ve been tempted to break it. Why? You might ask. Well, it blew my mind. Like setting the book down and taking some deep breaths, shocked. Like, tear up because everything is just too perfect, shocked.

S.C. Grayson’s Spears and Shadows follows Nora, an archeologist who studies ancient weapons. She built her life around her career and works hard to one day become the Chicago Field Museum’s lead curator. Everything changes when she receives two very unique weapons. A spear and a sword. With them came an adorably nerdy literature professor from Northwest University, whose knack for linguistics made him just the right amount of useful to catch Nora’s attention.

Adam works as a professor, but he is so much more. He is the only thing standing between Nora and the shadows. Oh, and he happens to be an ancient sorcerer of light. Just like superman, off comes the sexy nerd glasses, and in comes a badass warrior. This story has dual timelines. The reader knows the historical one has something to do with Adam since he is immortal, but the truth doesn’t unfurl until Nora and Adam’s romance sparks. Together the pair use their light to fight the darkness that threatens to take over the world.

This lovely portal fantasy is a must-read if you are a sucker for plot twists. Trust me, you will thank me later.
