Crowns and Legends by Chelsea Banning is an action-packed book taking place in a medieval world. The reader follows Arthur Pendragon’s children as they face the consequences of their parent’s choices. We get to meet Guinevere and Merlin, among other more-sinister legends.

Ariadne is the daughter of Guinevere and Arthur. She has a warrior's heart, like her father. She and the men train under the same circumstances. Her brother will be the next king. She chose the path of knighthood because, as a woman, she has few opportunities for upward mobility. As a knight, her skills with a sword will outshine her gender.

Anwil is Ariadne’s twin and heir to the throne. He will become king after his marriage; meanwhile, Guinevere rules as his regent. Anwil is a scholar. More interested in the library and pulling pranks than in reality, Anwil has a sweet personality and a kind heart.

The book opens with preparations for a royal wedding, and the reader witnesses the weight of the kingdom transferring to Anwil’s shoulders as he loses the carefree boy he once was. Ariadne also feels pressure. Many believe that she should marry soon too, but she is unwilling to seal her fate to any man at this time in her life. The siblings are each other’s biggest supporters, and when the evils of their world pull them apart, they fight with everything they have to protect the other.

The new adult book has everything. Action, magic, and romance, with some interesting historical tidbits sprinkled in. I had the pleasure of narrating one of the fight scenes, and let me tell you; it was a blast.
