Review of Obsidian Queen

Stephanie Kerr’s Obsidian Queen is a beautifully done portal fantasy. With action, adventure, and romance, the story has everything you could hope for in a high-fantasy novel. The story starts with Kinsley Alwyn, a half-fae with a big destiny.

After Kinsley’s adoptive father died, her sister became the only person who loved her. At a young age, she learned self-reliance and hard work could get her past the most difficult times. Fast forward several years, and she was an outcast in her small village of Pendragon. Her sister is the only one who would miss Kinsley if she refused to marry the man her mother planned to give her to. She contemplated running.

Edric, a fae soldier who saw atrocities and lost loved ones, did not expect much from the halfling who was meant to kill their evil king and save their land. But he went for her anyway because she was the resistance’s last hope. He expected to find a princess but instead discovered a fighter.

Upon returning to the land of her birth, Kinsley is trained to fight while she mentally prepares to kill the king, who happens to be her blood father. She finds a family in the resistance that cares for her more than her blood ever did.

I thoroughly enjoyed this epic story! If you are a fan of A Court of Thorns and Roses or The Witch Collector, you’ll love the vibes of this book!
