Timeless Magic by Alyssa Drake and Rebecca Hamilton is a portal fantasy heavily seasoned with spice and gore. In this story, you follow Beatrice Rosen, who does antique art restoration. Her life changes when a handsome man shows up at her workplace with a request to restore a piece of art by the next day. She works into the night with such concentration that when the painting pulls her inside, she thinks someone has kidnapped her.

Nicholas Langley has two brothers, and they are both wizards. When Beatrice shows up in Nicholas’ room, he is not surprised. His brother sends women home through this portal often, hoping to prevent his imminent death; however, he finds himself attracted to this one. While a gentleman at heart, Nicholas ignores propriety regarding Beatrice, and he endeavors to seduce her, even with the danger that surrounds them.

Beatrice’s introduction to the 1600s shows her a world steeped in witch lore. On her first day, a neighbor accuses Nicholas of ritually murdering women when he hears her scream for help. This book follows this couple as they traverse a world prejudiced against magic. Where witches are tortured and murdered in all the worst ways. After the townspeople find an alchemist murdered, they must discover the true killer before the town council puts them to death for a crime they did not commit. A story of love at first sight, sacrifice, and intrigue that will haunt you long after you have finished reading. Drake and Hamilton do a beautiful job of sending the reader on a journey that is both dark and sensual.
