The Dusk Room by K B Mallion is a paranormal romance. This contemporary story follows Darla, a recently single office worker who plays bingo with her mother for fun. The book starts with her best friend Lyla talking her into going to a fancy nightclub. Everything changes when the darkly handsome bar owner walks by. Darla is instantly attracted to him, and after partaking in some liquid courage, she busts into the VIP area to chase down the mysterious man. This decision changes her life forever.

Instead of kicking Darla and her friend out, Fane treats the girls to a bottle of champagne and a table of their own, but that’s as close to her as he’s willing to let himself get. He is a vampire at the ripe old age of one hundred and eight. The problem is that he cannot get Darla off his mind, so he does his best to keep his distance. With the way she throws herself at him, the temptation is unbearable. He knows he is dangerous, and his world is not safe for humans. He does not want her anywhere near him. So he resists. And resists. And resists some more.

Darla does the opposite. She is persistent in her pursuit, so much so that after Fane tells her the truth of what he is, she goes home to google search vampires. When these two finally give in, they make a beautiful couple. Together, they become the best versions of themselves. They are passionate and gentle, sweet and spicy, but can it last forever?

Mallion’s story had me laughing, crying, and heated in turns. I came away from this book with a bit of a book hangover, so read her content warnings and have a box of tissues at the ready. This book was what I needed. Sometimes it is easier in life to process the hard things while reading a fantastical book than it is to do it on your own.
